FedEx Trade Networks Transport & Brokerage (Canada), Inc. has an immediate opening for a Senior Freight Accounting Analyst.
 

This position is responsible for ensuring that due process is in place required to issue credit notes and debit notes from overseas agent and FTNC offices towards services rendered through freight operation.  The incumbent is also required to verify if ocean freight files are complete in terms of revenue and cost, facilitate the closing of month-end files and process all local vendors, steamship lines as per appropriate guidelines

Job Description

FREIGHT COSTING 

• Communicates with overseas FTNC and agent offices to obtain all prepaid shipment credit note, services debit note pertaining to the shipment 

• Enters information regarding prepaid shipment activities in computerized system to keep all concerned parties apprised of general collection 

• Identifies errors and / or omissions in payment process. Investigates causes by contacting operation personnel and identifies appropriate method to rectify errors or record previous omission 

• Provides freight accounting related to transaction support for international finance department by verifying all receivables & all payables 

• Processes payments for all steamship carriers for immediate release of containers by verifying rates for trucking, de-stuffing, inland, storage and demurrage etc. that arises from day-to-day operations of validating cost sheets 

• Responsible for file closing within the time period 

• Resolves all discrepancies within the period and communicates result by e-mail to the Management 

• Communicates with FTNC overseas offices for support in terms of job cost sheet and any amendment that may be required to steamship lines freight invoices

REVENUE REPORTS

 • Assists the department Manager for all receivable & payment duties by :- verifying freight operation billing and vendor invoices (as to extension rates), checking all corresponding cost files to ensure billing to the customer (if applicable), and by validating if correct procedures were followed

 • Authenticates all billing, payables  and freight costing files for completeness and accuracy by checking all shipping notes with actual operation files (Receivables, Payables & prepaid shipment credit notes)

 • Evaluates overseas agent credit risk and discusses possible solution with the department Manager as well as with the Management

 • Audits internal operation to ensure that policies are complied with and maintained

 PAYMENTS

 • Schedules and prints steamship cheques and presents for signatures with relevant approved vouchers with attached cash on delivery shipments

 • Follows- up short and over payments

 OTHER DUTIES

 • Audits internal operations to ensure that relevant policies are maintained and followed such as guarantee forms that have been forwarded or attached to the invoice (ex: storage, demurrage, and detention invoices)

 • Communicates with FTNC overseas offices for support in terms of Job Cost Sheet or any amendments that may be needed to steamship lines freight invoices

 • Supports Operation Department by assisting in freight accounting functions

 • Performs any other duties as required by Manager

 • College Diploma in Accounting and Finance required 

 • Minimum 5 years of experience in Freight costing and accounting, preferably with a reputed Transportation and Brokerage firm

 • Working knowledge of MS Office, Outlook, AS 400 and office equipment

• Excellent organization, time management, problem solving skills and attention to details are required
